Believe in Your Greatness, No Matter the Size of Your Fin

Description

I like this photo a lot, particularly because of the striking disproportion between the size of this whale and the size of its fin. In 2015, I was asked to make a video about whale sharks and Bahia de Los Angeles. One of my best friends and I went filming for about a month and a half, and I can say it has been one of the best periods of my life. During the project, we filmed many species, both on land and at sea. One day, while out at sea to film and record whale shark individuals, we encountered a whale from the species Balaenoptera physalus. The animal dived in front of us, showing its huge body with its tiny dorsal fin, giving me a perfect scene.

I had never seen a fin whale before, and I felt a deep connection to that scene. Much of my career, I haven't had the resources to make large contributions like others. Still, I always look for ways to make things happen. During that project, my friend Carlos and I didn't have many resources, so we had to compensate with hard work. For instance, we didn't have the best cameras, so we had to edit more. We didn't have a drone at that time, so we walked daily to a hill and waited for hours to make aerial films. We didn't have a car, so we walked more and planned more. We had limited resources, but like this whale, we were doing huge things.
