Waiting in the Darkness

The night has arrived. From a rock in the middle of a small river, red eyes observe and wait. A black-crowned night-heron (Nycticorax nycticorax) awaits its prey. It remains still until a fish or crayfish moves within striking distance. It will wait and hunt all night if necessary. It waits in the darkness.
