Exploring Flowers

Walking in a river in Lake Forest, California I found this plant of the species Cynara cardunculus. It uses its large showy flowers to attract pollinators. In this case, the visitor is a bee (Apis mellifera) that was flying over the flowers and inspecting them. It seemed to be looking for the landing zone.
